Chris Reckling Life Outdoors WAVY+

“Check, Check – one, two, three.”

Sound system is working well.

The man then reached for a couple of knobs before asking several questions.

“Where do I put this? When do I turn that off? How to I get that monitor to come on?”

Must be pretty new to this television thing.

Ha – not hardly.

Chris Reckling was simply learning the particulars and practicing all of the things he has to known on an endeavor for WAVY’s new streaming channel – WAVY +.

But the overall scheme of things is old hat for one of southeastern Virginia’s most recognized and liked personalities.

After working at the station as a cameraman, a sports broadcaster and anchor, co-host of The Hampton Roads Show, and the last few years the star host of Reck on the Road, Reckling was asked to start something new.

And if the early weeks are any indication, it’s going to be a huge success for a lot of viewers.

“Life Outdoors” will feature Reckling interviewing and talking about all things outdoors with a variety of guests.

You can take a look at the first one here:

Let me know if you can figure out who the inaugural guest is. You get one guess.

Reckling, a 62-year-old who graduated from Virginia Beach’s Princess Anne High School in 1981, has been working at the station for 36 years.

And while the new show – which airs on Fridays each week – takes him on a different path, nothing about it is new.

An athlete in high school and college, Reckling surfs and is part of an outrigger canoe clue team. He loves fishing.

He’s basically had a long love affair with all things outdoors.

Reckling plans to do pieces on those involved in conservation, skiing, hiking, bird watching, kayaking, fishing and hunting. From time to time he’ll delve into the rules and etiquettes for all of them.

And that’s just to name a few.

Because of the way the region is set up, a big portion of interest will be geared towards the many aspects of boating in an area surrounded by water.

“All things outdoors,” Reckling said after getting set up and ready to put together the first run. “We’ll look at it all.

“There are so many opportunities around here to enjoy the outdoors.”

And endless volumes of information about they all.

“There’s no shortage,” Reckling said.To read more of my work, go to: leetolliveroutdoors.com
