Happy Independence Day!
With the Fourth falling on a Thursday this year, there will be an extra-long weekend of events to celebrate in and around Virginia Beach and Norfolk.
Boaters will be out in force this weekend, so stay alert and stay safe!
We’ve assembled a list of some of the places where you can see fireworks this weekend. There’s nothing better than watching the fireworks from your boat.
Here’s some places to catch the booms:
July 4th Events:
The 37th Annual Great American Picnic and Fireworks is scheduled for Thursday, July 4 at Town Point Park on Norfolk’s downtown waterfront. The U.S. Fleet Forces Brass Band will play at 6:30, the U.S. Fleet Forces Band begins at 8 p.m. and the fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m.
Vendors will be selling Fourth food–dogs, burgers, cold drinks and more–in the park before the fireworks begin.
Boaters can dock along the Promenade at Town Point Park on the Elizabeth River, but space is likely to be limited. Call 757-441-2345 for information.
The Stars & Stripes Explosion is scheduled for July 4th on the beach in Virginia Beach. There will be three locations with live music: 17th Street Park, where Chester B’s Motown Review will play from 7-10 pm; The 31st Street Park, featuring the Deloreans from 7-10 pm; and the 24th Street Stage on the Beach, featuring Tidewater Winds and Adrian Duke.
The fireworks, visible from all three spots, will begin around 10 pm.
In Yorktown, a full day of activities along the York River on July Fourth will conclude with a Liberty Bell ringing at the Riverwalk Landing Stage at 7 pm, a concert by the Super Jazz Band with Connie Ironmonger at 8 pm and the fireworks beginning at around 9:15 pm.
The 4th of July Stars in the Sky celebration at Victory Landing Park in Newport News gets underway on Thursday, July 4th at 7 pm, with children’s rides, food vendors and live music. The fireworks over the James River get started around 9:30 pm.
July 5th Events
On Friday, July 5th, the Fort Monroe Fun & Fireworks celebration will take place at the Fort Monroe National Monument. There will be food vendors, kid’s activities and the USAF Heritage of America Blue Aces Ensemble will perform at 7 pm. Fire works begin at 9:15 p.m.
Also on Friday July 5th is the Shore Thing Independence Day Celebration & Fireworks, to be held at the Ocean View Beach Park in Norfolk. The fun begins at 6 pm with food trucks, kids activities, live music from Wonderland and fireworks at 9:30 pm.
