Got junk?
Yeah, we know … who doesn’t.
But you know what’s been said: “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
Problem is, it’s often tough to find that end of the rainbow – that person willing to take the old stuff off your hands – and actually give you some money for it.
That’s probably why flea markets were designed.
The stuff is out there, often on easy display and staring at your dollar.
A perfect example has been all the goodies that can be found at this year’s Great Bridge Fishermans Association Fishing Flea Market.
The year’s 16th annual event is Saturday, March 1, at the Virginia Beach Field House. It will be the organization’s second stay at the huge indoor facility.
Doors open at 8 a.m. and close at 2 p.m., and there is a $5 admission fee.
Both fellowship and camaraderie are free and quite plentiful.
After its humble beginnings, the rapid growth of the event showed that it needed a facility big enough for the organization to raise money to fund the GBFA’s vast programs of scholarships and community projects.
This year the market will feature more than 160 vendors selling goods ranging from antique to brand new. Around the rim will be organizations like fishing clubs, marine law agencies and crafts.
Lots of folks walk in empty-handed and leave needing to borrow their friend’s truck to cart home all the stuff they bought.
As the market has grown, so has its status as a regional late winter “go-to” fishing event.
“Oh … we’re about 250 percent better than ever before,” said Butch Pierce, who started the event at the Hickory Ruritan Club in Chesapeake. “It’s a great time for everybody.”
