Check out that new Yamaha outboard motor you re-powered your boat with a couple of months ago.

She’s a beaut, isn’t she.

Now take off the cowling and check out what’s underneath.

Wow.

Yeah, that’s all you can say about the magnificence in front of you.

Thing is, in all it’s glory, there’s a lot in there to manage.

Some of us old timers – me included – remember the day when taking care of such things was easier. Those were the days when changing spark plugs, oil and lower unit solution was just about all that had to be done.

That’s why my recent preaching about getting the vessel ready for the rapidly-arriving boating season is more important than ever.

This is why the fantastic folks in our maintenance department are insanely important. These folks rule the motor world.

They’ve been trained and certified, and have the skills someone like yourself need with the new boat motor technology.

Jon Scott, our service manager on the maintenance side, passed along to me a list of why their expertise and your motor need to be in a partnership.

“It will increase the efficiency and power,” he said. “They’ve (Yamaha) had to go to computer controlled systems.

“So our modern technicians have been trained to gather that information and use it to make the best decisions.’’

Think of it like you would a new car – scheduled things to make sure you’re getting what you paid for.

Nobody want to break down or be stuck adrift because you decided to tackle things on your own.

The most important aspect is to deal with one of our reps. They can get into the computer system on your motor and analyze that – if anything – needs to be done.

Troubleshooting is their way of life.

And the way things are today, that often means little to nothing. But at least our folks can pinpoint areas that need looking at.

That, in a cowling, is why dealing with our folks can save you a world of trouble.
