HAMPTON, VA – MARCH 1, 2025 / Hampton Convention Center

Wanna go fishing.
I’ll take ya, but you’re going to have to turn off your GPS, give me your cell phone and wear these blinders until we get there.
Ah … the secret fishing spot, the honey hole, the fishing haven nobody else knows about.
And you want to keep it that way.
There was a time when such nonsense was the way of angling.
But not any more.
While there are some who still try to hide certain aspects of their angling prowess, for the most part folks like to share information.
I mean, seriously, what’s better than taking a newbie fishing and watching the joy they’re having with every catch.
Some have taken it to the extreme, holding classes and seminars to teach a few of the tricks of their passion.
The Saltwater Sportsman National Seminar Series is one of the top ones in the country.
Run by professional angler and television star George Poveromo, the series is in its 38th year. One of this year’s eight stops is this Saturday, March 1st at the Hampton Convention Center.
As usual, it will feature a group of nationally-known captains teamed with local experts discussing a wide range of species.
Where, when, how and with what likely will take up a bunch of the days’ conversations.
“We tie it all in together,” Poveromo said. “It’s amazing sometimes, the nationally-known guys learn a lot of stuff they take home with them.
“It’s a team teaching concept that really works.”
Tickets are $65 and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a break for lunch. Go to: http://www.nationalseminarseries.com to get a spot in the event.
Some of the big-name captains will be Anthony “AJ” Burns, Mike Goodwine, David Wicker, Harry Vernon III and Alan Menzel.
Locals include Dr. Ken Neill, Russ Kostinas, Bill Pappas, Kenny Louderback, Stan Zimmerman, Zachery Hoffman and Ric Burnley. Burnley is a regional editor for Salt Water Sportsman magazine.
Topics of special interest will be cobia, red and black drum, flounder, sheepshead, striped bass, puppy drum, speckled trout, king mackerel, billfish, wahoo, dolphin and tuna.
